Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - The South Sulawesi high prosecution office said it is still await reports from banks about alleged money laundering involving a number of Pare Pare city officials.
"We are still awaiting reports of financial transactions from a number of banks before we decide steps to be taken," coordinator for special criminal cases of South Sulawesi High Prosecution office Noer Adi said here on Monday.
He said the prosecution office is investigating allegation that part of the funds for the procurement of medical equipment for the government hospital of RSUD Andi Makkasau Parepare had been sent to the account for the official in 2014.
Investigation of the case was first on alleged mark-up of the budget for the hospital , but later there were indications of money laundering involving city officials as reported by the Reporting Center of Financial Transactions Analysis (PPATK).
"In the beginning it was an ordinary corruption case , but later there was report from PPATK about flows of funds to the accounts of city officials," Noer Adi said.
The prosecution office already named two suspects in the mark-up case -- a city official Uwais and an executive of PT Pahlawan Roata, Candra Pratama.
In the court proceedings, the suspicious flows of funds to the accounts of the officials were unveiled.
Investigators found alleged money laundering involving fund appropriated for the procurement of the health equipment causing a potential loss of Rp8 billion to the state.
The procurement cost was set at Rp19.8 billion from the state budget. The cost was inflated by Rp8 billion to cover the funds sent to the accounts of the officials.
"We already has a list of officials involved in the money laundering," Noer said refusing to give names.
He said the investigators still need more evidence before naming them suspects.
