Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - President Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, left Makassar's Sultan Hasanuddin airport in South Sulawesi at 7.30 am on Thursday for Mamuju, West Sulawesi.
In the company of First Lady Iriana, the president is on a two-day working visit to the provinces of South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, and Southeast Sulawesi from Wednesday to Thursday.
After arriving in Mamuju, President Jokowi will inspect Cacao National Movement (Gernas Kakao) and agriculture infrastructure project in West Sulawesi.
Later from West Sulawesi, the president and his entourage will fly to Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi on Thursday afternoon to inspect irrigation project, maritime toll road plan, and attend the 12th national congress of the Family of Gajah Mada University Alumni (Kagama) before returning to Jakarta.
During the first day of his visit on Wednesday in South Sulawesi, President Jokowi inaugurated an irrigation project in Mojong Bendoro in the district of Sidrap.
The irrigation project may flow water from Saddang river in Pinrang district to 12,000 hectares of rice fields.
President Jokowi laid a corner stone to mark the development of the 2.2 kilometer long and six meter wide irrigation system.
Under the heat of sunlight estimated at around 38 degrees Celsius, the president then walked along the irrigation channel, crowded by the farmers wishing to see and shake hands with their new President.
"Pak (Mr) Jokowi, Pak Jokowi," the farmers shouted to the president who waved his hand to return their greeting.
President Jokowi during the tour was flanked by minister of public works Basuki Hadimuljono and state secretary Pratikno.
President Jokowi and entourage arrived at Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi, by presidential plane and used a helicopter to reach Sidrap, which is 30 minutes flight from Makassar.
